THE MEANING

DAD: It's shame or honor.

ME: What do you mean?

DAD: The choices we make in life. Every day. Every moment. It's one or the other. Honor is the easy one. Anything that isn't shameful is honorable. There's a profound dignity to just being human.
...what's so funny?

ME: Taking a dump is honorable?

DAD, grinning: Yeah, yeah it is.

ME: So, what's shame?

DAD: That's the hard one. Shame is the loser in a war. Samson lost twice: first to sin, then to men. The first loss was internal. It stole his strength. That's why he lost the second time.
Don't mistake the second loss as mere punishment. The shame of losing to man is what caused him to look back to his Maker. That's why he lost the first time. He stopped relying on me for strength.
